This is a highly practical book for parents, moms and dads. Although the book is named "Checklist", and there are definitely checklists, it is different from many other check list books or blogs. It is written in a very straight forward, no-nonsence manner with appropriate parts backed up with tons of research. The number of topics, depth and detail is amazing. Just when you think you thought of everything, there's more. For e.g. there is a section on air travel with baby. Beyond the obvious what to carry/ pack with you, there are notes/tips on what to do if there is turbulence, what time is better for a flight, and a list of travel friendly products and baby equipment rental companies.We bought it as a gift but ended up keeping it for ourselves. There is a companion book by the same author that focuses on pregnancy as well that is similarly good.

Excellent guide - must have for new parents!
Great consolidation of information across a ton of different topics written in an easy to digest manner. Kim clearly knows her stuff and provides great insight into how to approach raising a child
Finally, I can get answers from a mom who is confident and knowledgable. Kim offers comforting and useful tidbits that are tried and true, and make me more confident with my first child. I received this book as a baby gift and it turns out to bone of the best I got! I will start giving this book as a baby shower gift!
I got this book at a book talk by the author. It made me aware of issues that I missed with my first 2 kids--GMOs and also what to eat if you were Gluten Free and Dairy Free and still wanted to be nutritionally rounded.
1.) The checklist format is awesome! Concise. To the point but not dumbed-down.
2.) The information is well-researched and more than what you get in most books that would "dumb down" the information.
3.) It contains great mental health information and postpartum tips.
4.) It makes a great gift--I gave it to my sister-in-law, mother of a two-month old.
5.) It's like sitting down with a wise friend. The author shares her knowledge and avoids extremes. Her advice is sensible.
6.) It's easy to pick out what you like or to read it cover to cover.
7.) The author walks her talk.
8.) This is about the reality of parenting versus the fantasy and it helps readers in making their own decisions and navigating the world of information-overload. What baby products do you REALLY need? How to shop organics sensibly and on a budget? How to look and feel great after having a baby.
9.) There is something for everyone
